Cooler temps...what do you think?

Temps in the high 90's will burn your snake....too hot!!

Ok! Looks like temps are 94 93 88 97. This are the reading I get as I scan the infrared gun across the surface if the cypress chips.

If I measure the cardboard and scrape all the stuff out the way it way over 100!!! If I get the temp down to 90 on the surface of the cardbord then I am looking at what I had before. Mid 80's.

This is where it is gonna be tricky, I wonder where you guys are getting your temps from?

Do you ever measure the temp if the snake?

There is alot if air to cool things down between the card board and subsitrate to the reptile.
Also cardboard being hot is better than hot glass the same temp right?

When's that Herpstat due to arrive? I think once you get your tub set up, you shouldn't have too many worries - just dial in the thermostat to be 90-94 on the warm side and your cool side 80-84.

Should I have ordered the herpstat II ?
I did not think I was going to have to control 2 pads for a small tub. I was planning on running 1 pad and thinking that the cool side would be eaiser to control because it would drop down on it 10˚ on its own.

I only have heat tape on one side of my enclosure, and truth be told, the cool side does get as low as 77 - which I don't worry about too much. If it got much cooler, I would probably supplement with a second UTH.

Termite mounds are known for being exceedingly constant with regards to the temperature control. In 115 F degree heat, they remain at a constant temperature much cooler than the outside, which is why termites do so well, and other animals like BP's seek shelter there to remain at a constant temp during the day.

85 is a good ambient temp, so I am not surprised that is what the termite mounds are usually at. The BP can hang out in there without getting to cold, and thermoregulate by emerging at dawn and dusk and perhaps for a little mid afternoon to bask and warm up. Sounds like the perfect BP environment!
