It kind of depends on your environment. I would start off with just a couple holes setup the tub with your substrate, water and hides, heat it up to the proper temp gradient and see where you are with humidity after a day or so. Then adjust from there, keep in mind it's easier to add more holes than plug existing ones As for making the holes I use a soldiering iron, works perfect nice clean holes and a perfect size!
