Cool morphs with a normal female?

Abby, my normal female is about 350-400 grams right now so she wont be ready for breeding for quite some time. ive been looking at all these different morphs and such but have a simple question. Can you breed a normal female with say a pastel, pinstripe, piebald, etc male and get morphs out of it or do both the male and female need to be morphs?

im nowhere near being ready to breed snakes but figured id ask anyways.

also, a friend of mine claims he saw an orange and white ball python at his friends house. said it looked like an albino but with bright orange do these actually exist and is there a name for them?

Re: Cool morphs with a normal female?

Recessive morphs (Pied, Albino) with Normals will produce Hets (Look normal, but are carriers of the trait)

Co-dom morphs with Normals will produce Morphs and Normals.

A Bright Orange Albino would probably be some type of combo morph... Clown Albino maybe? But it has yellow too... I dunno. Pics are needed to determine

As long as it is co-dom trait you are breeding with you will get some visible morphs. Now if you breed a super pastel to a normal you will all pastel hatchlings. Piebald for example, is a recessive trait so if you breed that to a norm you will only get norms with het for pied. Hope this helps.

    RECESSIVE:
    Albino
    Axanthic
    Caramel Albino
    Clown
    Genetic Stripe
    Ghost (Hypo)
    Lavender Albino
    Piebald (Pied)

    DOMINANT:
    Pinstripe
    Spider

    CO-DOMINANT:
    Butter – Blue Eyed Leucistic
    Cinny – Super Cinny
    Enchi – Super Enchi
Fire Ball – Black Eyed Leucistic
    Lesser – Blue Eyed Leucistic
    Mojave – Blue Eyed Leucistic
    Pastel – Super Pastel
    Yellow Belly – Ivory

If you breed a normal to any of the dominant or heterozygous form of co-dominant, you've got a 1 in 2 chance of a baby being a morph, and if you breed the normal to a super form of the co-dom, you'll get ALL babies that are the het form
(so for example if you bred a normal to an ivory, you'd get all yellow bellies)

    ah, now it makes sense.

so in order to get recessive morphs you will need to breed 2 hets together?

theoretically, my normal female could actually be het for something else since i bought her from a stranger who didnt know where her boyfriend got her from? i know the odds arent high but i guess its wishful thinking

the only way to find out if a "normal" is het for something is....?

Actually, I think thats an albino ghost, correct me if I'm wrong, but in the book, "The complete Ball Python" By NERD they show a picture of one, and it looks very orange.

Exactly. You can only get recessives or supers by breeding together two snakes that both have the genes (so some combination of parents who are heterozygous or homozygous for the trait...So if you breed two visual albinos together, they'll make all albinos)

yeah...theoretically...although you should always assume she's not. The only way to find out if she's het for something is for her to magically produce morphs lol. So if you breed her to every single recessive morph (homo not het) then maybe you'll find something. But it's not likely Just love her because she's beautiful
