15-32qt tub, undertank heater, digital thermometer, 2 hides, water bowl, bungee cord to hold on lid(in the center), newspaper or aspen for bedding, small soldering iron to poke some holes in the sides, thermostat to control undertank heater. ALL you need to set up your snake and make him feel secure and happy in his home.

Tanks are for fish.. They are heavy, fragile, expensive, very hard to heat and keep humidified, don't make the snake feel secure, and will require ALOT of work and money to properly set one up. Just get a tub and take your snake out when you want to see him. Most tubs nowadays are very clear and you can easily see the snake. You want a tub that is low to the ground(6" or so) but has a good amount of floor space.

When your snake gets bigger, you can get a plastic enclosure specifically made for reptiles. Boaphile, Animal Plastics, Herpenclosures, RBI Plastics, etc. all have great looking, glass-front cages that actually look nice and will keep your snake happy and healthy.

To me, tanks just look trashy, especially since you have to insulate them and do so much work to them to make it work for the snake(Ball Pythons at least). I don't even keep my 8ft boa in a tank. She's in a VE-175 tub from Reptile Tubs and it's so easy to clean and heat. The only animals in tanks are my african clawed frog(who is aquatic), my tropical fish, my Leopard Gecko, my Crested Gecko(she's in an Exo-Terra) and soon to be my White's Tree Frog. Even the 3 Box Turtles are in a tub because not seeing a barrier can cause nose-rub and stress.

If you must keep him in a tank, go get a 10-gallon and and make a top out of plexiglas. It will keep the humidity and heat in.
