    URGENT: sick(er) gravid female...

A few days ago I posted that my gravid female was sick...lethargic...just not interested in moving, even when held..

    here's the post...http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=64485

by today, she's moving more...but twisting her head and rolling around....she looks lost, like she is unable to control her movements....sometimes she sits with her neck all wrapped up around itself....like she's in a knot that moves down her body

her fecals are clear, no mites, no RI, no contact with others aside from my male while breeding (who is fine)... i raised her temps from 87 on the hot side to 90 on theside....humidity is 60%....boaphile enclosure...

I'm at my wits end here....worried to the point of tears.....is this normal if she's about to deliver??....

    anyone with ideas please? help

Does it seem like IBD? The way you're describing her makes me think of that

Are you sure your temps are that low?

Sounds like you could have overheated her and fried some circuits, OR.....

It could be something like IBD.

Was she ever in contact with Boas or any other reptiles?

We have a rescued boa, but she's in quarentine....she has never been in contact with anything but my male...he seems fine, eating great and being his usual sweetheart self...

the highest temps have been were 90...which I upped to today

it really does seem like IBD from the research I have done....but I honestly don't think thats the case...I have had her for awhile and this is the only problem I have had with her....no mites, no nothing....I'm stumped

Researchers have not established causality between mites and IBD. I would make darn sure she is far far QT'd from all other snakes. Then I would make darn sure that the male she was with is QT'd far far from all other snakes. Then I would take your girl to the vet. Good luck!

    Re: URGENT: sick(er) gravid female...

At this point this could very well be a moot point and a useless suggestion, but log off the internet and get her to a vet like yesterday!

Why do people, especially reptile owners, insist on waiting around and seeing what happens before they get their animals the proper medical care? No one on this forum or any other place online can replace the advise and the care that a vet can give your animals.

Please, stop wasting time asking people what they think should be done, or how they should do it and get that snake to a vet. Pay the few hundred extra dollars it'll cost because of the after hours visit and pray she pulls through.

That's if it isn't too late.

Sorry if I seem harsh, but it astonishes me how people have this stupid notion that they should get their answers from the internet instead of a professional.

I think you missed my point.

It's an emergency. You don't wait for an appointment when it comes to an emergency. If it was your kid acting like that would you be waiting on an appointment, or would you be in the emergency room?

    Re: URGENT: sick(er) gravid female...

I would have to say that some of the people here provide better advice than most vets would. I know for a fact that the local vet here wouldn't be of as much help as this forum if I had an issue with one of my snakes. How can I trust a vet who believes that oral meds are always a better idea than injections for snakes? No matter what the problem is, the vet always seems to prescribe oral baytril 1X a day for 2 weeks.
