Maybe get the possible double het pair now. Presumably the male will be almost given away and the pair price will be for the female (can’t remember how much I paid for my possible double het male but it was years ago and it was already cheep). Then in a year or two when the possible double het female is getting big you might be able to upgrade to a 100% double het male when prices come down. Males mature much faster than females and even if you do have to use the possible het male the first year you will soon be able to increase your odds with a for sure double het male.

Your chance of not having the genes to produce at least one or the other (albino or axanthic if not snow) when you nail down one side with a for sure double het male would be only 1 in 9 so an 89% chance of getting something first generation. Then you can keep breeding that male or an unrelated replacement to extra generations of possible double het females.
