UTH failing?

Can a UTH randomly fail? It was working fine yesterday and today it won't heat up anymore.

Yes and generally they open up and stop heating, but a couple cases of them shorting have occured and caused over heating. I think that is the exception, but still a good reason to control them with a thermostat.

I do control it with thermostat. I have two on each side with two thermostats. yesterday temps were perfect (89-94 and 80-84) until I noticed today that the cool side was 72F. I checked the UTH and it was cold.

I have a 32qt tub. Would it be okay if I blocked off half of it and forced the bp to only stay on the warm side until I get something else for the other side?

Maybe the t-stats stopped working.I would try to plug in the UTH and see if it works or not.

As Joe says try plugging the UTH directly in without a thermostat just to see if it warms up. If it does check your thermostat. If it doesn't then the UTH is bad.

As for the 72 degrees on the cool side, I wouldn't worry too much about it for a couple days or even a week as when people are cycling temps for breeding some people cycle them down to that level at night and they will do it for a couple months!

Oh! Ok. Whew. I was worried there hehe. I just fed him yesterday and he was on the coolside, but switched to the warmer side. I'll try plugging in the UTH directly tomorrow (after the post-feed 48 hours elapse)

Why do you have to wait 48 hours to check the plug on your UTH?

Well, I don't wanna disturb my BP since he just ate. The UTH is taped under the tub which is sitting on the ground. I'll take out Buddy tomorrow, flip over the tub and see what's going on down there.
