    Another "what to get next"

Hey guys, right now i currently have a male pastel and have gone back and forth on what to get next. At one time i really wanted a female spider but i had a friend tell me id be better off buying a male. And I have also considered maybe a female mojave or a male mojave, and lots of other stuff

So I was wondering what everyone else thinks what morph i should get next to build my breeding collection based on your opinions.
    thanks!

Since you're building your breeding stock you need to concentrate on getting the females first since they take longer to reach sexual maturity. That said, whatever female you like the look of is what you ought to get next. Having a pastel male is great given that pastels really amp the color of so many morphs.
So, I'll throw your own question back at you: What morph strikes your fancy??

Mckinsey is right... if your planning on breeding you need females first. It takes 2 yrs to get a female up to size and weight so you should think about getting females first. Males can breed at 1yr or even younger so id hold off on picking up any more males. Ive seen some killer pastel mojaves so I say female mojave.

I voted for a female Cinny since I dig pewters. If you like the way they look then it's also a lot of bang for your buck. I love a good lookin Cinny!

thanks for all the replies everyone

thats the thing, i wish i had 3000 bucks to blow off on just the 500 dollar co dom and dom traits out there.

So i probably should just pick a female either a spider, mojave, or cinnamon. Which ever one i like the most and get it first and then later on get the others?
i would also like to get like 2 older normal females to breed my pastel to next year or so and i could still be producing while im waiting for the little female to grow up. does that sound like a good idea?

That was our plan! We bought two adult females over 1500 grams. We had some problems with one of the older females adjusting, but that just means she has to wait another year before breeding. We are trying to get a younger male pastel to lock with the other and they seem to get into the right position, but they either have their tails covered or you can see no lock is taking place when you check on them. We will keep trying as it would be cool to have pastels on our first attempt to breed ball pythons. If our other girl comes around we may try a fall breeding with her to our double het for VPI Snow to make some 50% PH VPI Axanthics, 50% PH Albinos, 25% possible double het for snow, and 25% that will be normal. No way to tell what is what until we back breed it so this batch will pretty much have 100% hold back on all females to breed back to the origional daddy taking the long odds way of doing things!

Re: Another "what to get next"

Just remember if you get those two normal females thats 2 more mouths to feed and to clean up after for 20yrs or so. I know a lot of people who get normals and then see all the morphs and are like i dont want this thing anymore... All your going to get out of pastel x normal is more pastels/normals that your going to have to find homes for... or take care of if you cant sell them. I'm not saying dont get the normals... I would just think about everything that comes with the care of 2 new snakes when your only "need" for them is to just breed until your others are up to weight...

I have 11 soon to be 12 snakes and have yet to breed any of them... I can vouch that waiting till their old enough/big enough sucks but itll be worth it in the long run.

Sometimes I just don't understand, don't you have a goal or something in your collection?
For me I want to make leucistics in the furture so I buy the animals who can make these..

Where do you want to get? If you want bumbles you buy a spider, if you want pewters you buy cinnamon, blasts..pinstripes etc.
