Which Thermostat?
Im buying a rack system for my ball pythons and I was wondering which thermostat would be better, a Johnson Controls Thermostat A-419, or a Ranco ETC-111000 Thermostat Pre wired?

Re: Which Thermostat?
Herpstat.
My first rack uses a ranco, which has not failed me. Although the tub temps are between 90-93 on the hot side, I have to set the ranco at 100 to get those temps, and the heat cable fluctuates from 98 to 103 to get the 90-93 temps in the tub. I recently got a herpstat for another rack and it works like a dream, I set it to 95 and the tub stays an even 92.
Id use a herpstat, esp if its heated using flexwatt, (less fluctuation, less chance of screwing up the flex-watt)

Re: Which Thermostat?
I have not used the johnson controls one yet, but my rancos work good. Only thing is if you are getting the pre-wired version you may want to spend the extra $40-$50 and get a Herpstat. They are proportional and a lot of people, myself included, have nothing but good experiences with the herpstats we have used. I have 2 of the 4 channel Herpstat Pros and wish I could find someone that would trade me either a Herpstat II or another Pro for my 2 Helix controllers. I'm a Herpstat man now!

Re: Which Thermostat?
I use a Helix DBS (proportional) backed up with the Ranco. The Helix is nice so you don't get the huge dips with an on-off thermostat, and backing it up with a Ranco provides good piece of mind for your investment.
