    Is this right to do?

I was looking at the, way overpriced IMO, Juragon incubator and noticed this in the description.
New JURAGON KR20 Replicates daily temperature fluctuations that occur when the sun is at it's warmest during the day as well as the lower evening and night temperatures.
Wouldn't constantly changing the temps cause stress on the developing eggs and potentially cause you to lose the clutch?
I always thought you had to maintain a steady temp.

No idea because I don't bounce temps up and down. If eggs are laid in burrows in the ground in Africa, then you'll most likely find the burrow temps to be very stable without dips or highs worth mentioning.

it should maintain the temperature to a .5 of a degree F at the most.

This is talking about a 10 degree night drop.

leave it well well alone a 10 degree drop could cause some derious defects with your eggs.....constant temperature is what they need.

There might be some reptiles that would benefit from this type of fluctuation - I know my Chameleon eggs need to start out being incubated at a lower temp and then increased - but I don't know the incubating techniques of every species to be able to tell you if it would work or not - certainly don't want fluctuation for ball eggs. I would think you'd be able to program it for a steady temp if you needed to.

This would actually be pretty normal (but not really necessary) for a lot of colubrid eggs (ratsnakes, kingsnakes, milksnakes etc....) I wouldn't use a night drop for python eggs.

Im sure that its just a availible setting you can use. Some reptiles determine male/female ratio by temperature.

Re: Is this right to do?

We looked at that incubator and were not very thrilled. While they say 60 Medium snake eggs it looks like it would only hold 1 clutch of ball Python eggs. At the introductory price of only $499.00 it is meant for the science comunity more than the hobbiest or serious breeder. I got my incubator which is a cabinate type for around $450.00. While it was origionally set up with wafer type thermostats I removed both of them and now have 3 Rancos operating with 1 as primary control. One as a low temp back up and the other as an overtemp back up! (Yea I know overkill.) All three rancos cost $180 shipped. Equipment to wire them was like $8 at Lowes. Total price of $638 and it will hold 9 clutches of eggs and it maintains around +/- 0.1 degrees, unless you are opening the door to check on things. I like it and when you look at the cost of your incubator you have to look at how much you will loose if you loose 1 egg due to a mistake in the incubator. For me next year we are looking at breeding a lemon bumblebee to either a Graziani pastel or a Cinnimon.

    One spider = ?? One pastel = ?? A super Pastel = ??? One bumble bee = ???? One cinna bee = ???? A Pewter = ???? A pewter bee or killer bee = ?????

It was a fairly easy choice to make the investment based on this one pairing let alone the other pairings we are looking at!
