non-good update on mom-rat with lump

Not too long ago, I posted about a female rat that I had, who was pregnant, and on whom I noticed a lump. Thought it to be either a tumor or a mammary lump, as per research. Well, this morning I went in to find that she had eaten her babies They were all mangled around her cage.. food and water was there, and she had been eating and drinking normally.
I fed her off to my BCI. I am just updating everyone as I said that I would.. I wish that it would have been a better update. I don't know if the tumor that she had, had anything to do with it; it seemed to disappear once she gave birth But like many others, I do not keep baby killers because, either they are possibly apt to do it again, or if there were inferior genes, I would not want to pass them on more.

I would not want those genetics(if any) being passed down anyways. If i have a rodent that eats all or most of her baby's with normal conditions, she gets fed off. Plain and simple, there is no point waisting food on baby eaters if you get nothing out of them.

Many females have some problems with their first litters that resolve once they get the hang of rearing offspring... at least in my experience.

I'm talking about started females, the ones with plenty of food and cull them off over the next few days, I understand when its ones that i just raised up and first bred.

It was not her first litter; she had 3 litters previously. See, she was always one of my best producers; she had large litters. This one was a litter of 12; relatively good. It was coming around time for my boa to eat anyways, so I don't feel that bad about feeding her off, but it is always upsetting for me to lose a breeder; even though they are really not tame, I get attached.
