Why live over frozen?
Freezing a rodent destroys important B-Vitamins that keep your snake healthy. Feeding Frozen can be done and works for many people, but there are some empirically measured drawbacks. PK or Stunned seems to be the safest(although hardest for owners) way to feed!
Why Presenting?
Snakes don't sleep, they kind of go into a trance. When their tongue picks up scent particles during sleep it reverts the biological processes that put them into a trance and turns on their hunting instinct.
Why keep humidity down and temps warm?
A natural bacteria in the snakes mouth can move into the bedding, and in damp conditions become a hazard. It can cause sores, which spread to deeper layers of tissue(if unchecked) and cause the snake to get sick. Proper maintenance saves vet bills!
Why two hides?
Snakes evolved to keep safety a priority over thermoregulating. Let them have their cake and eat it too!(or mouse, I guess).
Who is Mendel? What does he have to do with snakes?
He was a very bored monk who decided it would be a great idea to attempt to explain coloration with flowers. Breeding a purple to a white he noticed that all of the offspring were purple. Breeding the offspring to the offspring he found 1/4 to be white and the rest to be purple. He's the reason that we understand recessive and dominant Genes. By breeding snakes, you're continuing his work!
What are spurs?
Evidence of evolution, the snake is still ridding itself of the last of its legs. Early snakes chose an underground lifestyle and it was easier for them to move with out legs. Be glad, or we would all just be Ball Lizard owners.
Why do snakes move their heads left to right before they strike?
After their Jacobsen's organ has picked up the presence of food, their heat sensing organs kick into action. They move their head to vary the input and figure out exactly where the source of food is. They can sense temperature changes up to 1/500th of a degree!
Hope you guys enjoyed! This is a compilation of information from quite a wide variety of sources.
