Oh Happy Day!!
My little hypo ate for the first time tonight, nearly a month after I got her! I am very very happy!! While she has not lost any weight, not even a gram, during that time, she was my only snake who was not eating. The rest have been slamming rats big time!! Great feeding responses!! But not my little hypo.
Over the weeks I have taken advice from other members to minimize the tub size, fill with paper, let her chill more, don't handle.... Since we have not handled her anyway, I tried all the other things, but she actually seemed more stressed being moved. She wound up back in her 32qt tub with her 11x12x2 inch hide from RBI. She's cool in there; I never get the vibe that it is her environment that is stressing her. Temps and temp gradient and humidity are always and consistently bang on.
Thursday night she refused. She smelled, licked and refused. Totally refused. We left the little rat fuzzy in and she still refused. I was a bit stressed, but
Adam suggested that changing environments, shipping, etc is harder for some snakes than for others.
Tonight I turned the lights out early. I pre-scented (as usual) and right next to her tub for two hours. I offered the fuzzy, even did a little dance. She would not come out of her hide. I lifted the hide up a little so I could see what was going on. Did the zombie dance in a mellow way and still nothing. Not wanting to push her, I left the fuzzy in her hide and closed the rack and left the room.
Before I got out of the room I heard the hit!! Not wanting to disturb her (if indeed I had even heard right) I left her alone for another hour. When I checked there was a little lump in her body and the fuzzy was gone!!!
I'll continue to feed her fuzzies every five days until she puts on a little weight and then bump her to a pup every seven days.
Oh happy day!!!!!
