I hate to see people try to make dogs out of reptiles......sad sad stuff.
If you are looking to get into monitor lizards, I would suggest ackies or blackheads as a starting point. If those are too small for you, sand monitors are interesting captives and are quite beautiful. Monitors are not like snakes.....a bad bite from an adult water monitor could cost you some fingers...Once I was 'gotten good' by an adult ackie, I have never had the urge to keep any monitor larger than 3-4' ....something about teeth hitting bone just makes me fear those big guys.
Blue trees and Green trees require very specific care and need to be kept by advanced keepers only. Sadly most people buy them because they are 'pretty' and they die due to inappropriate care. Blue trees come from a little island near New Guinea.....one little island is the only place they can be found....it is sad to see such a rare reptile abused so much by people trying to make money.
If you really want a water monitor, I would suggest getting a CBB baby. You will have much better luck if you stay away from imports. I would advise against it though.
