covering the egg box

I saw someone cover their egg box with plastic rap (the clear stuff) can you do this instead of a lid? I thought it was cool, you could see in without any problems. What do you all think? One other question. How deep dose your vermiculite have to be?

I've been waiting for someone to chime in on this one because I'm curious about this too. But wouldn't the humidity fog up the plastic wrap?
