Re: Hides made from sculpey clay?

The Sculpey brand cures in a regular oven. It is a little bit soft right after it comes out, but it hardens completely as it cools.

And I need to check that the glaze will be food safe... I ended up with craft glaze, so I'll look for something else later. Thanks for reminding me!

The one on the left looks like a turtle shell! The only think i would have done different would be to make it where you can fit a water bowl into the clay.

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

That's awesome!! I have a clay pot that i dug a hole in to use as a hide but I couldnt find a second one the same size so I scraped that idea....This is so creative and a fun 'day-off' experiment I would like to try.

those are very kewl indeed. nifty idea. maybe make the water dish area a bit bigger so that you can use a deli cup so that it would be easier to clean the water? and you wouldn't have to worry about the glaze as much.

Re: Hides made from sculpey clay?

I'd planned on making the "water dish" a bit bigger, but we were trying to stay within the constraints of one box of clay for two hides. Maybe I can make something that fits into that.... hmmm...

And I'm glad I'm giving people ideas! If anyone needs a step-by-step, we were planning on making one big one for Levi, so I can take pictures. Just ask!

Oooh.... It's been forever since I've worked with Sculpey... It hadn't occurred to me it may be safe for reptile hides. Hmmm.....
