Help? I Need a Camera.

I know almost nothing about camera's. The only thing I do know, is that mine sucks lol. My bf and I were looking at a Nikon for about $550 but I don't think we will be getting that until the summer. So I want a camera, now! lol.

Is there anything that will take some decent pictures (better than my crappy samsung digimax 4 mega pixels, A403) That I can find for around $200? Or am I dreaming? Any opinions are greatly appreciated

I just bought my wife a Sony Cybershot W80. She loves it. I think it is 7.2 MP, and it was under $200 at Best Buy. The other camera I was considering was a Cannon SD1000. I chose the Sony because they had an open box one and gave me 15 or 20% off.

How big of pictures do you plan on doing? I don't remember the exact number, but once you get bigger than an 8.5"X11", nothing over 4 MP makes much difference. Something like that.

really depends on how much you want to spend and the features that are most important to the two of you. that camera that you are looking at that is Nikon is the d40 and is being discontinued as there is another model that came out the d60 to replace it so if you can catch it on sale grab it before its gone. let us know what you are looking for price and features wise

The closeup shots with the camera I have are very blurry and not crisp at all. I have read the manual well yet there are no settings that will fix the problem. The camera I have is a few years old so I would like a new one anyway. I dont need large pictures but I do want my pictures to be better quality and crisp up close. I want the camera mostly to take pictures of my bp The reason we are getting a nikon hopefully is for when we are out kiteboarding, but like I said I might not get one for a few months. Is there nything around $200 that will at least give me clean crisp photos up close?

well i know that things seem to be a little more expensive in Canada but if you can pick up a Canon they make a bunch of smaller "point and shoot" cameras that take wonderful close up shots and have a decent zoom. Obviously the more you pay the more optical zoom you get. Never buy a digital camera for the digital zoom, optical zoom is what you want for good close ups and a Macro settings in a smaller camera. Try these.

Keep in mind that there is a HUGE difference in the quality a "point and shoot" camera takes in comparison to the DSLR's you were looking at in the Nikon. DSLR are made for a totally different customer and thus have tons of features and over all quality is much higher in that type of camera. All of the above cameras will take wonderful shots and the technology has change considerably in the last two years in the way of cameras so you will definitely see a difference in quality and features over the one you purchased two years ago. Hope this helps a little.
