My wife is a grad of the University of Cincinnati their school of zoology is in the top ten in the country.

She works for the Cleveland Zoo and loves it.

If it's something you want to do go for it!

    Re: School for Zoology

I had the same interest until I went to my freshman orientation and they had a freshman biology professor there... He slapped down about 4 stacks of note cards with probably 500 cards in each pile and said this is what he expects from all his freshman students... Although I love all animals and would give just about anything to work with them for a profession... when it came to school my motto was do as little as possible to get by. Unfortunately that motto wouldnt have gotten me through freshman biology so Business Admin it was... 5 1/2 yrs and 4 colleges later I got my degree from Empire State College... If you got the drive to keep you focused while at school to get your work done then do it up!! Unfortunately I got caught up in having too much fun and not enough work. I would look into colleges in FL... I know when I was on a spring break trip we went to animal kingdom and we spoke to a girl who was doing an internship there... cant remember what school she was attending but I know it was in FL.

Does she us her major now? Where does she work?

another problem that i have come across is that there are not many schools here in so cal that offer this major.

My girlfriend and my family are encouraging me to try it but i just read online that its a hard field to get into and it doesnt pay super well.

    Am i wrong?

    Re: School for Zoology

Going into zoology has many different fields.

Go to Michigan state university's website, and they actually lay out many of the careers your looking at.

They also list classes, and what to specialize in for certain jobs.

It's a great career and there are so many options, you may end up in the amazon rainforest finding new species! Good luck!

    Re: School for Zoology

I have my Bachelors in Biology from Cal Poly Pomona.

They have a good Animal Science program, but is based around farm animals. There is also an Equine Science program as well.

What I did was get a general science major and take the Herpetology class that is offered, as well as worked with the Reptile room that is available in the Science department.

It worked out pretty well, and the man I worked with in the Reptile room was a very well known Herper during the earlier years, so it was a lot of fun.

    Re: School for Zoology

My son is looking at University of Montana (for wildlife biology with a minor is zoology) and also at Humboldt State University in Cali for their biology/wildlife/zoology majors. IMO, they are both great schools!
