Or, the animal could be overfed ... excess, unused fats and oils passed in feces have a horrible smell ... a definite sign of overfeeding.

This is the answere I was looking for! I fed my 5 month old ball a small rat, she took it fine but 5 days later the feces was partially digested with some hair left on half of it. It made the whole room smell. I will feed her smaller rodents until she is ready.
