    Wish me luck

I've decided I need to make some changes and so I'm off to an interview with a vet clinic. The position is a vet tech assistant, so basically I'm their B**ch. And if I don't get this job, I have a Starbucks that is interested in me since I basically come pre-trained and they are in desperate need of people there.

So wish me luck on both jobs. I hope to get both since both are part-time positions. *crossing fingers*

    YAY!

    Good luck!

Working in a Vet Office will be a very interesting job.
Frustrating, heartwrenching, and all together worth it.

I can't speak for Starbucks, however... Never worked there...

IMHO, the most important thing is that you've decided it is time to move on and pursue something different. So to me, I don't think either one of these 2 possibilities is as important as the fact that you are taking action. Don't stop until you find something that is not only different, but also BETTER!

    Re: Wish me luck

The interview went well. I got a tour of the clinic and got to see some of the things they use. She went over the duties I will have (vaccinations, helping the vet and techs, ect).

I'm supposed to know by the end of the week so I'm hoping to get a call withing the next three days be it good or bad.

I am very sure it is time for me to be moving on from my current job. I've been there for almost 2 years and its time to do something more exciting and challenging. I worked in Pediatrics as an Assistant for 3 months and I loved it! I was learning so many new things everyday. I was learning what vaccinations were what, how to set them up for the nurse, how to take a patients information and get temps and weights. And one day I was even shown how to draw blood. I got it on my first try! I love working in medical and I think its where I need to be. I want to be a vet tech but the community college I was hoping to take those classes with ended up not going through with the program and I was stuck taking classes I didn't want to take. As a result I failed them all and have withdrawn from my classes this semester. I'm going to try and find a school with a vet tech program and try and get into that. I'll update when I get a call from the clinic.

I'm pretty sure I've seen ads (probably on Animal Planet) about an online vet-tech school. You might look in to that if you don't have one local to you.

    Re: Wish me luck

Some of the online programs might be good, and some are absolutely useless. As far as I know, all of them require that you do hands on work through a local veterinary hospital to complete the program.

I've worked with two people who completed online courses at Penn Foster, and found both of them to be shockingly unprepared for basic function in any capacity. One graduate in particular was holding my small female dog in her lap and pointed to her sagging rear nipples (she'd had a litter before I got her) and asked if those were her testicles. When I explained that she was a female those were her nipples, she said "Oh, I've never seen a boy dog underneath before". This was only one of a great many gaps in her knowledge, and yet she had successfully completed the course was, on paper at least, a Veterinary Assistant.

Now...I expect not all online programs are worthless, but I can't say I've been impressed with Penn Foster, by any means.

Good luck with the job. It will make you more misanthropic than you ever thought possible, but there are some wonderful experiences involved too.

Any time I go for a job interview, I ALWAYS call them back. They say they will call you, but if you call them, it shows you are interested and that you really want to work there. I have never been turned down at a job that I actually called them.
