    Describe your favorite snake

I find snakes to be nature's masterpieces. So I thought I would ask people to describe an aspect of the appearance of their favorite snake and what makes it beautiful and unique. Here's my own observations...

    1. I think jungle carpet pythons look like they are draped in gold jewelry. They are so slender and elegant, and they really seem like python royalty to me... Especially the really amazing ones with the bright gold and black on them.

    2. Sumatran blood pythons... I'm sure it's been said before but I think they look like someone made an abstract watercolor painting on their backs. I've never seen one in person but even from their pictures they look like pieces of artwork! (Maybe someday I'll own one when I have the space and can afford extra large feeders...)

    Any takers??

    Re: Describe your favorite snake

Wow, this is a tough one. I think all snakes have their own brand of beauty, but for my favorites...

    1. Green tree pythons-especially the ones with the blue markings on them. They just have such wonderful proportions to them, and such gorgeous coloration...I can just sit and stare at a GTP forever. When we finally get one I will probably park a chair in front of it and watch it the way people watch their fish tanks.

    2. Gaboon Vipers and Rhino Vipers-the markings on these snakes are just mind blowing. It's just incredable what nature can do. I'll never own one but I can drool over pictures!

    3. Gotta give love to my jungle/diamond carpet, I take him out sometimes just to look at him. It's such fun to see his yellow come in more and more with each shed and I love the way his face looks, almost like a little dragon.

    4. Retics- another one of nature's masterpieces, and probably another snake i'll never own, unless I decide to buy one of the super dwarfs at some point. I love their markings and their orange eyes just blow me away.

    5. About a million morphs, but I'll just say this-Blue Eyed Lucys.

By free do you mean "wild" or "free of cost"? Anyways not quite what I was going for but I guess whatever moves you

I guess I should rephrase this to, "What type of snake(s) particularly inspired you and what about its appearance do you find most beautiful?"

Boelens pythons....hands down. I've never seen this level of iridescence on any other snake.

    Re: Describe your favorite snake

    Here we go.

    1. Arboreal snakes tend to look beautiful. ATB, ETB, GTP, genus Bothriechis and Atheris

    2. Cobras and Rinkhals, anything that can flare it's neck is dead sexy.

    3. Large Heavy Bodied Snakes i.e. Most Boas and Pythons

    4. Olive pythons, no real design but sure has got one hell of a nice color.

    5. Poops money. This is by far the most important and very elusive trait which breeders have yet to develop in snakes. The idea is that a snake converts a rodent into energy and the by product comes out as a crisp and fresh smelling Benjamin. For now it's just poop in a water bowl. Dang.

    Re: Describe your favorite snake

Hmmm hard question so I have two answers....

    1) the snake currently in my hands becomes instantly my favorite

    2) the snake I just saw on a breeder's website that I cannot afford to get

    Re: Describe your favorite snake

I think you could guess before even reading more of my post

#1) Central African Rock: Largest snake in Africa. They're amazing in more than one factor. The point that they commonly take down prey much greater than their own body weight, more frequently than any other giant Boid. That, or their pattern and color....it looks like a cinnamon colored snake drizzled in dark caramel.....just droolworthy

#2)Barneck Amethystine Python: Highly intelligent, and very beautiful.

#3) Burm: Haha what can I say, I <3 my giants.

    Re: Describe your favorite snake

    I got a few favorites:
    1. Western Hognose because they have such a complex pattern and really nice colors (you may not notice this in photos but W. Hoggers also have an ink-black belly that shines) and because they have this attitude which makes them pretty cool (your average snake doesn't hiss, form a cobra-hood, and make mock strikes unless it's a Hognose)

    2. Rosy Boas since they have nice coloring, are usually very tame and curious (I like those traits), and because they're smooth

    3. Blood Pythons because they have truly exotic colors and because they're fat (sounds like a funny reason but I prefer stout snakes).
P.S. Is it true that Bloods can change the color of their heads?

    My snakes:
0.1 Kenyan Sand Boa ~Nephthys~ (aka "Linky")

    In a better place:
    1.0 Pastel Western Hognose ~Charon~ 10/3/07-4/24/09

If you need/want to know anything about Hognose snakes, just ask me.
