breeding ?
Do corn snakes have to hibernate before breeding? And how much do males and females have to weigh to be able to breed?

Re: breeding ?
I'm not a corn breeder, but thats what I've been told by those who are. My girl isn't there yet. She's an '06.

Re: breeding ?
Weight is more important than age.....I will not breed a female unless she is 300+ grams. Males can breed earlier.....I have had males go at two years and with less weight, but you don't want to count on it. Generally younger males do not fertilize as many eggs or as many girls.
Ball Pythons, Blood Pythons, Corn Snakes, King Snakes, and Leopard Geckos.

Re: breeding ?
I've read that brumating is necessary for the male to produce viable sperm. Is that just a myth?

It helps, but isn't necessary. I've bred in the past w/no brumation and 100% hatch rates of nice large clutches.

I knew brumation wasn't necessary with BPs! But I was posting in the corns forum...
What I had read originally (I think), said something along the lines of "snakes that are native to [insert word that means get cold in the winter] climates will not produce viable sperm unless they are brumated". And since I had seen a lot about brumating corns before breeding, I thought they were included in this group.
Now I wonder if there are species that it is an absolute requirement? Or is it more of just helping them get the idea that it is time to breed by simulating the change of seasons?
