Trying to figure out Red Axanthic?
I'm trying to figure out if the Red axanthic is a Co-dom or Resessive gene. Over at TSK they have one for sale. The mother is listed as a Het Red Axanthic which points the trait out as a resessive gene, but the father is a black back and no mention of being het anything. This makes me wonder. Is blackback a super form of red axanthic or does it take red axanthic and something else to make a black back? Just curious to see if anyone knows.

Het Red Axanthics are Co-Dom. The Red Axanthic is the Super form.

Incorrect. All Het Reds are not black backs. The original Het Reds were black backed, and many of the offspring are, but I have seen Het Reds that are not black backed. I will agree with the latter half of your statement though.

So in that link there are pictures of the het reds but I don't konw that I have ever seen the super of the form. Does anyone have a picture of a red axanthic? I know the hets are considerably different than normals unlike many other hets, but what do the actual red axanthics look like?

Re: Trying to figure out Red Axanthic?
So looking at all this it is a Co-Dom. That is what I needed to know! Thanks. Looking at it all I still like the looks of the classic VPI, SK, or Jolliff lines of Axanthic with a preference on the VPI side. I still hope to get to play with an SK Axanthic one day also even though right now we are concentrating on the VPI. Might throw some Red Axanthics in our gene pool later as they do look good as babies. The red out later is what I would need to figure out how to get rid of.
I wonder if you could make a snow using a red axanthic? I'd bet Ralph Davis is already playing with this!
