PE-1 and PE-2 Temp Gun, Pro Exotics

I was looking at the two infrared temp guns and I just wanted to see if anyone has been able to compare them. I want something that I don't have to stick my hands right in the tank to get a reading, so is the PE-1 not really going to work for me?

Any comments from those who own or have tried either of these temp guns by pro exotics, I would appreciate your input. If there are any other good temp guns for a similar price (below $50) I would be happy to hear about those as well

I have PE-1. It works fine, and sticking your hand in there for less than a minute is really not that bad...

    Works for me!

Thanx for the reply! I don't really want to stick my hand in because I have a terrarium that lets the heat and humidity out as soon as I open it. If I leave it closed the humidity and temps stay up just fine so thats more what I'd prefer to be measuring.

a temp gun will measure surface temps, not so much air temps, so it's for basking spots, or ambient temp judging from things around the cage. A thermometer sounds like more of what you're looking for.

yeah, if you're trying to read the temp of the glass or substrate, go to walmart and pick up an Accurite.

Mine matches perfectly to my Herpstat, no adjustment needed.

I'm sure most people are not as anal as I am, but I got a Fluke 561 that actually came with an ISO certification. We also got a CEN-Tech that didn't come with a cert and the difference between readings of almost 10 degrees F. I paid $150.00 for the fluke though. I also got an Amprobe TH-3 Hygrometer and temperature meter for reading ambient air temps and Humidity, again it came with an ISO certification. It cost about $100.00, but it proved our Zilla dial humidity gauges to be more way more accurate than the relative humidity part of the acu-rite thermometers.

I have a PE1 and like it a lot. If you have a Harbor Freight store near you they sell a comparable one for $19.99 regular price that often is on sale for about $13.00.You only have to stick your hand in the tank for 1 second to read in 1 spot.

Re: PE-1 and PE-2 Temp Gun, Pro Exotics

Thanx everyone I do have 2 digital probes, one inside the tank to read indoor/outdoor(ambient temp and UTH temp), then the the other substrate level on the cooler side. They work good but I have noticed that for the UTH to be simply warm to the touch, not hot, the probe reads the temp at 95 degrees. Thats the biggest reason I wanted to invest in a temp gun. We went looking at wal-mart and Canadian tire and a few other places but I can't find one around here. I'm probably just gona go for the PE-2 from pro-exotics and have it shipped
