Re: I am in heaven as i was given some deer meat

I really like deer meat. It's a big thing to eat in michigan. Everyone gets the first week of the bow and rifle season off to go hunting. I havent had it in ages, but it is DELICIOUS! I've never thought it had a gamey taste to it, but it is different from beef if that is all you've ever eaten. *yum* ^.^

Forgot to add, deer jerky is one of my favorites. I like it only partially dehydrated so it still has some tenderness to it and smoked with some awesome flavors. LOVE jerky!

I will be the first to say I am tired of Venison.... ...I know what?!...My whole family hunts. I am the only 'poor college student' in the family. Thus...I constantly have a freezer full of venison steaks, burgers, and sausage.....I know how could I get sick of having ALL of that in my freezer? Well its all I have ate the ate 5 years. My dad and uncles are always so pumped after they get a dear and it is always 'oh this is going to be the best tastin meat yet!'....and I dont have the heart to turn it down....so if you are in the Twin Cities area...ya, drop me a line, get some venison ...I will trade ya for a chicken leg....

Re: I am in heaven as i was given some deer meat

Venison is like any game meat, it really depends on the quality of the animal you take down. It can also depend on what wild diet that deer has had, what age it is, what gender it is, how well it was field dressed then hung and butchered. Then it comes down to the skill of the cook and preparing a cut of meat properly allowing for it being lean wild game and what part of the deer it came off of. Do it all right and you have some of the best, healthiest meat you could ever eat.

The best venison I ever had was years ago. We had a family member who ran a blue ribbon herd of beef cattle on his farm. He never allowed hunting but over the years the white tail population on his farm literally exploded. Those darn deer were hopping fences to steal his top quality cattle feed, use the salt licks and sip at the cattle water tubs. He finally decided a controlled hunt would be best to cull them back a bit.

That venison, from deer never hunted, never stressed by harsh conditions, that were feeding off the best wild and farm feed to be found was literally to die for......yummo!

killer pickup on deer meat Joe. I've got several packages of frozen deer chopped meat in my freezer from my dad. To say it makes a great meatloaf and burgers is an understatement. Hubby used a package to make sauce and it was such a different but oh so yummy flavored sauce, I think it was his best batch yet. I've tried buffalo, its okay, and I've tried alligator. that was interesting.

Alligator is pretty gross, its all yellow and chewy. Camal is good and Kudo. Had them both while in Africa.

    Alligator rocks.
If you only had some food item one time and didn't like it, try it again fixed differently. I'm sure you've had a bad piece of chocolate at some point, cheap stale chocolate.. so you could have missed out on chocolate your entire life if you'd eaten that one bad piece first.
Try new foods. I ate about 60 different eggplant dishes before I decided I truly LOATHE eggplant.
