Hi, I'm new!
My family and I just got two baby ball pythons a week ago. We have had THE BEST time watching them so far.
We are going to attempt our first feed in the next couple days. I hope they'll eat for us.
I've really enjoyed poking around this site, and look forward to getting to know everyone.

Re: Hi, I'm new!
Oh, sorry! We live in metro Atlanta.
Here's a link to a gallery of a few pics we've taken. The ones where we're holding them, is the night we got them. We've left them alone since.

Also, we have stone hides now, instead of the half-log ones.

Re: Hi, I'm new!
Well yikes.
I'd done research before we got our snakes, and we've got our tank all set up appropriately, etc. I was doing more research tonight, because the next big thing we have coming up is a feed...so I wanted to see specifically how others are doing it.
In addition to reading posts, I checked in on the FAQ and CareSheet. I was mentally going down the "checklist" in my mind for the answers to the questions...and then I got to "Can My BP's Be Housed Together?" For as much as I've read, I hadn't come across this question, and I had ASSumed they could, safely. I see now, that it's not recommended.
We are most interested in having our snake(s) as a pet...not breeding. We love our glass vivarium setup, so we can sit and watch them. I really don't want to do tubs, and financially setting up another glass aquarium, not to mention space in the home etc. is a bit prohibitive.
Hubby and I have pretty much decided that one of our snakes will be going back tomorrow. We haven't really bonded with them yet, because we were doing the "hands off" thing to let them settle in. We're sad to make this decision, but also know it's the best.
This is a heckuva "hi, this is me" post, but I don't want to come under fire later, so I'm just sort of posting as it happens...in a "stream of consciousness" manner, if you will. We want to do right by our snake, and I'm glad to have been educated on this issue, albeit a week late, lol.

Re: Hi, I'm new!
well you may not have to set up an entire new enclosure. some people successfully section off parts of the tank for each snake...in your instance, all you would need is a divider and another heat source so both are getting heat.
Also, check your local Craigslist ads for tanks and stuff...people give them away left and right. Occasionally you'll find reptile habitats up for very little money.

Hi Cindy~
Oh boy- I don't think I've ever read someone going from sheer enthusiasm to complete bummerdom in such a short time period! Shoot!!

Re: Hi, I'm new!
Thanks for the welcome!
We did decide to return one snake. It had "only" been a week, and since we've been hands-off to let them settle, we (specifically our daughter) hadn't *tremendously* bonded yet. If we were gonna do it, now was the time, kwim?
I wish I had known what I know a week ago, but honestly? I just hadn't ever read that. I'd read all about temps/humidity, all that stuff...but just never about one snake per enclosure.
We're actually OK about it...just ready to move forward.
Pictures are in the link I posted above. We kept the snake named Amani...although now that we don't have the Amari/Amani combo...I'm gonna see if my daughter wants to change it. Might perk her up a bit, plus we have our feed attempt coming up probably tomorrow.
Looking forward to jumping in around here.
