I'm sooooo HACKED!!!
I just don't know how to start!! Today we had a couple of "close" friends over, we all rode 4-wheelers through the mud off and on throughout the day, everything was going great.
After all this is said and done, I got in my car to go up the road to grab some dinner and gas for the car...I went to pay for it, and I was missing a significant amount of cash. I felt like an idiot, standing there, digging for money, had to use the card.
I called my girlfriend, who came riding with us, and she got to digging around, and she had $70 gone out of her wallet as well. So we got to thinking, and looked where my hubby keeps his cash, and a good bit of it is gone, on top of all this!!!
Point is, I feel so VIOLATED!!! I should be able to leave thousands of dollars around on my kitchen table if I want to, and be secure about it. My stuff was put away, and someone apparently rooted through my stuff and GOT me. If you can't trust your "friends", who CAN you trust???? We called everyone that was here, and went so far as to say we were getting fingerprints lifted off of my zipper on my purse, but nobody knows anything.
So sorry about the long post, I just had to rant somewhere!!! I'm so pissed, I'm shaking!! Money is nice, yeah, but it is replaceable. Friends like that, I DON'T need!

Re: I'm sooooo HACKED!!!
I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you.
Have there been any signs that one of the people who were over is having an addiction problem? Drugs, gambling, etc? Stealing from friends like that is a desperate move. I'm not excusing it, just trying to help offer some type of explanation as to why a friend would violate you like that.
I hope that when/if you find who did it, they are prosecuted for theft. Hopefully, in the process, they will confront whatever it was that drove them to do something like that.
A very close friend of mine is suffering with a chronic and incurable illness, for which he takes strong pain killers on a daily basis. He is very careful with his medication and always keeps it out of sight and tucked away. One day, after he had a small group of friends over, he went for some medication and noticed that a selection of pills had gone missing from nearly ever bottle; not enough to be obvious, but he knew because he keeps careful count. To confirm this, he ran out of medication early and had to wait until his new scripts kicked in to get more. He was in agony for days. (Too ill to even go to the hospital.)
There are some very hollow people walking around out there.
You might try this; at your next get-together, thake a moment to explain the situation that happened last time. Ask that whoever took the money return it, any time, no questions asked. They could even leave it in an envelope in your mailbox or something. Remind them that you are all friends and this type of thing is upsetting, not only because you were stolen from, but because you now feel that a friend is in such desperate need that they would resort to something like this. (This might also be handled in an email, but I like the personal approach for things like this.)
My friend did this after the incident with the missing medication. Nobody stepped forward, but given the reactions of a certain someone, we are very sure of who it was. No formal accusations have been made, but they are on the 'watch list' and nothing else has gone missing since.

Re: I'm sooooo HACKED!!!
Thank you so much!!! Just hearing that from someone who sounds so calm about the matter helped tremendously! I really don't know what to say or do, I'm afraid my temper would get the best of me. The more we sit here, the more aggravated we get.
I needed to hear that so much, just to settle my nerves. I'm not sure if anyone has any "problems" to speak of, but my g/f who had something missing as well, she's had prescription medications come up missing from her home before. Her dad is terminally ill, and lives with her, and it was his meds.
But I won't ramble on anymore, just had to thank you again for settling my nerves!!!

Re: I'm sooooo HACKED!!!
Oh man.. I would be steaming mad first off. I would have to calm myself down (and that is not even mentioning the rage my hubby would feel!) before confronting the person who did it..
Reminds me.. oddly enough of an ATV story! Mark's cousins and friends came out, and he let them go for a spin on our Polaris. So.. a few days go by. I pull it out of the barn to wash it.. one headlight is GONE. I about flipped, called my hubby and he flipped. Calmed down.. talked to his cuz who had not even ridden it (he has his own that he prefers.) He brought the guys out, so he did the noble thing and paid for the parts to fix it.
Were there any people who were guests of people that you're close to? If so, I would confront your closer friends first. Maybe something happened to them as well that they are iffy about (like, thinking that they're missing something..) and your accusations would tip them over the edge. At any rate, that's no chump change you're missing, and someone should answer for it.
Unless maybe you actually did lose the $. I lost $40 at the mall once. I know that no one touched my purse b/c it never left my shoulder. Went for my money.. gone!

You're more than welcome. We are a community here, right?
Feel free to keep writing about your feelings on the matter. In fact, I'd encourage it.
Here is an exercise that might help;
Write a letter addressed to the person who stole from you IE: Dear Thief. Really let all your emotions out. Explain how you feel; tell them how this has impacted your ability to trust; describe what you felt when you realized you had been stolen from; everything. Don't worry about being eloquent or polite. If you want to swear, swear. If you want to make threats, make threats. Really pour it all out.
Now, leave the letter alone for a day or two. After that time, go back and read it. Go through it and, if you feel the need, reword what you think could have been more eloquently stated. Keep the passion and intensity, but try to reshape the raw material it into a refined product.
After, leave it alone for another day or two and go back and read it over again.
When you feel that the letter has captured the true essence of what you want to say, in a way you want to say it, you can consider showing it to the people who were at the get-together. Maybe individually, maybe as a group, maybe as a mass-email... however you chose to do it. Just make sure to stipulate that the letter was written as a therapeutic means for you to come to terms with the violation you felt by the theft so that nobody thinks you are personally accusing them!
Plus, you will have the added benefit of knowing that the thief is reading it too!
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

Sorry about the incident! I can't believe that. It sucks when you lose trust in people that used to have it.

Re: I'm sooooo HACKED!!!
I just wish I could narrow it down to "whodunit". I can't exactly go around accusing someone, when I have no clue. It's over and done with, of course, we can't really do anything about it, except be more careful in the future.
I told hubby that nobody was allowed past our bedroom anymore. Company seems to prefer our bathroom to the other, and you have to pass through the bedroom to get access. I told him that as far as anybody else was concerned, they could pee off the back porch (hey, this IS Louisiana!) before they were going through my room again.
Well, it's another day, so guess we just have to keep on going, but you know it's pretty terrible when someone comes to your house, and you will always wonder if it was that individual who stole from you, and then has the audacity to sit there like they are your best friend...
Really, it does make you wonder what sort of "problem" the individual may have!!

Re: I'm sooooo HACKED!!!
wow, you must feel incredable violated. My first reaction would be a very bad need to know exactly who did it. It sucks when you can trust any of your friends just beacuse one is a loser!!!!!!
