I use the bottom 6" of a couple office-sized wastebaskets with a door cut in them. They fit an adult bp (~ 4') like a glove.

My BP is capable of fully curling up in his small black plastic hides, however he also 'slips out' of them now and then. It does not seem to bother him.
I'd say your hides are fine for now!

I go to the dollar store and get plastic bowls. Tortilla warmers work great for humid hides . For 99cents I got alot of extras

Oh yeah, having two identical hides is important, too. That way, the snake will choose based on his heat requirement, not comfort.
