Madagascar Ground Boa
Hello all! I'm really excited about something, don't want to say what, don't wanna jinx myself!
But has anyone had any experience with Madagascar Ground Boas? I hear they are pretty similar to Dumerils, but it's a bit hard to find any info on them. Thanks guys!

How long have you been keeping reptiles? Sorry, but you seem to be acquiring more and more lately and I always think it's a good idea to take things slowly to make sure that you really want them. Most snakes live for a loooong time, so if you are a new owner I would think twice before acquiring any more of them. If you're positive that's what you want, have fun!

I've been keeping herps for about 5 years now. I did pick up the Spotted about a week ago, but that is hardly "more and more." I appreciate your concern and all, but you see breeders and others on here picking up 5 or 6 snakes at a time, I think I can probably handle 2 snakes in 2 weeks.

Don't know much about them specifically other than they do get larger than Dumerils.

I know they're quite expensive and obscure, too.

Yea, that's why I was so excited. There was a guy in Austin giving away a breeding pair with cage and all for free. I sent him an e-mail, and he said he had bred them once, but had a hard time finding anyone to buy the babies. Plus he was getting out of snake keeping, and after a frustrating time of trying to sell them decided just to give them away.
I told him I would make the drive to pick them up (I live in Houston) but then he e-mailed me back saying he already had someone in Austin e-mail him about them and he didn't feel like waiting for me to get there, he just wanted them gone.
So, no boas for me. I'm sad now.
Probably too good to be true anyway. I kinda smell a rat. I think once he realized I actually knew what I was doing when it came to snakes he didn't want me to get them anymore. Maybe they were unhealthy, or not what he said they were? Who knows.

That does sound odd, well, you would have known once you saw them right?

Yea, I saw some low quality pics of them and thought that they might have been Dumerils, but I couldn't tell for sure. Either way they would have been free, so I would have only been out the gas it took to get there. Maybe the guy was just really impatient.
