Winston has lost his mind!
So, when Deborah and I went to go see Justin, he showed us how two males combat - even being together less than 30 seconds.
So, we have a front rolling in tomorrow and since "buddy breeding" worked so well last time (Winston with two females) I put him back with both of them this evening.
He's "combating" them (they aren't participating) but he's bucking them when they crawl over him, and acting just like the combating males that Justin showed us.
So of course, I pulled the two girls out and quickly popped them again - and yes, they are females, no mistaken males.
Why is he acting like this? Should I remove one of the females?

is he sleepy? When was the last time he fed?

could he be too young to have figured it out yet?
I'm really speculating since I have zero experience with this, so take it for what it's worth

Re: Winston has lost his mind!
when popping the percentage is not 100%...try probing...or maybe he smells another male

Re: Winston has lost his mind!
I have always done one female at a time. He sounds intimidated to me. I had a few other ideas but not so family friendly

Sorry Robin, I've never seen my males do it.

I don't think he's sleepy - he ate 2 days ago

He's bred both of them before - he knows what to do.

I've probed and popped these girls on multiple occassions for the past 2 years I've raised them - they're girls. No other males have been with either of these two girls. This is the same tub they've all bred in previously with no males nearby.

I put the two females with him on Adam's recommendation, and the last time, he bred them both - he was reluctant to breed one of them prior to the buddy breeding.

Robin... I've had that happen before!
in 2005 and 2006 my big pastel male would ALWAYS combat one particular female when they were together... after beating her around they'd settle down and and both years she produced his pastel babies...
He may just think he smells a male... wash the tip of his nose off... j/k

Fighting and making up sounds familiar to me

Justin, that's good to know! I'm very glad you showed us what combat behavior looked like though. After shaking the desk and knocking over pictures with his bucking, he finally pinned them both beneath him, and this morning was locked with one of them.
Good to hear that you've seen this behavior before!
