    baytril

been to vets twice now with my bp.it's still wheezing, sneezing and got red blotches on it's scales.my vet says this is a respiratory infection.these red blotches seem to be getting worse tho so i'm really worried bout this.the vet has gave me some baytril to give him oral every day.it's just he doesn't seem to be getting any better and he hasn't eaten for 2 month now.is this going to be a long process getting rid of this RI?

    Re: baytril

Oral baytril is not a good treatment as a snakes digestive system is so slow to utilize the medication is is not very affective.
We had a friend locally who had a male cinny with a RI and his vet gave him oral baytril, 2 weeks later he was still getting worse.
We treated it with baytril injections for him, and within 10 days he was back good as new and feeding again!

Injections get the medication into the animal for faster treatment, where oral takes a lot longer to work, if it does. If your vet is not willing to try better treatment I would talk to another vet.

*** That said we do not recommend treating an animal without talking to vet or seeing the vet first as different cases need different medications.****

    Good luck.

Ian, I would seriously consider finding a better vet for your ball python. Try finding one that specializes in reptiles. Not many good herp vets would put your snake on an oral antibiotic.
