the mother of 9 babies is eating her litter! These babies are well over a week old and creeping around the cage fine and now all of a sudden shes killing them off. we have only four left!

were ready to feed her off but everything that eats mice has just eaten or isnt settled in yet!

    Can be stress related!

Is she in a low traffic area, is she in a glass tank or see through tub, do you mess around with her a lot?

shes in a bin. low traffic, in fact our kids had never even seen her, exc. shes been fine until now! the babies just started creeping around and then the number started dwindling! shes gone though. we fed her off. totally made my husband mad... eek guess thats the pit fall of being a feeder, breeder or not. I didnt think Cam was going to eat it but she did.

I would not have keep her either, I tend to have a Zero tolerance policy when it comes to that.

I too had to feed off a bully rodent today. he would not leave one of my females alone, and she bit his foot really bad he was bleeding out, so he got fed.

at least you still have four..imagine if it were night time and you were sreeping. you may not have any left!

    good reaction times

    Re: what the!?!?!?!?!?

thanks everyone for the support, good to hear we did the right thing. i was just as mad as my husband that she was eating off our stock! was the nastiest thing ive ever seen!

we have a baby redtail and hes eaten off four of the remaining mice babies so at least we got some use out of them.

we have one more momma mouse left, her litter is about 3 days younger than this one. if she starts eating hers too were done.

    Re: what the!?!?!?!?!?

The things that are important with mice are security, which is why I prefer dark tubs, proper diet, fresh water, and low traffic area.

In my experience the first generation mice especially from a pet store is often very skittish which in turn lead to that kind of problems, it gets better and easier with the second generation.

What are you feeding the mom? May be not enough calcium for her to make milk? (pardon the bad grammar)
