I did this when I had a tank set up and it did help me improve my humidity. How well it helps depends on how bad the ambient humidity is in the room you're keeping your snake in.
I simply did as your friend suggested and layed the piece of fiberglass over my secured screen top.
you cut a hole for the light or you use just a UTH?
