How well does fiberglass hold humidity?

I have my snake currently in a tub but my friend told me that if I were to cut out a peice of fiberglass that would fit over the top of my glass tank, and made a hole the size of my light/heat emitter that it can hold the humidity in a lot better. Does anyone know if this would work or if fiberglass can even keep humidity in?

The idea made me wonder and I wanted to see some opinions.

I did this when I had a tank set up and it did help me improve my humidity. How well it helps depends on how bad the ambient humidity is in the room you're keeping your snake in.

I simply did as your friend suggested and layed the piece of fiberglass over my secured screen top.

Yes I cut a hole for the lamp with maybe half an inch of extra room so that the plexi didn't melt from the heat. I also didn't cut it to the exact size of the screen so that I had about a half inch slot open on the cool side for air exchange.

I have a tank with a screen top and I had to cut a piece of plexi glass to fit the inside lip of the cage under the screen top. It covers about 2/3 of the top of my tank leaving the other 1/3 of my screen uncovered for my heat lamp. it works for me and keeps in the humidity well.

I used to keep my plexi glass under my screen top but what happened was that my snake managed to squeeze in between the screen and plexiglass and ended up rubbing some scales of his head and causing a small wound. Thats why I opted for keeping the plexiglass above the screen.

Re: How well does fiberglass hold humidity?

I am new to forums and I want to ask a question and not sure if this is the way. I curently have my ball python in a cage that is handmade out of wood. I got it from some one who previously had a ball python in it. The front is plexi glass and the sides and bottom are a thick ply wood. The top is screen but I currently have it covered with plastic wrap except for where the heat light sits on top. My snake is a little less than a year old and eats well. I used to try and feed it pre-killed pinkies but he never would touch them. Then I tried feeding it live fuzzies and he's been eating ever since. Now he's up to small live white mice. My problem is the humidity in the cage. It only stays up to about 40-50. The only time I can really get it to jump up is when I mist it down. But then it only gets higher for a short period of time. My snake has two water bowls in the cage. One I keep under the heat lamp, hoping that would keep the humidity somewhat where it should be, but it doesn't. I was wondering about how I would make a moist hide box? Or maybe a timed mister in the cage? My snake hasn't had a very good shed since I've had him, which is about 7 months. And his skin is kind of wrinkled. I thought maybe it's dehydration but I do see him drink sometimes. Please give me some suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. I really want him to have a successful shed and commpletly rid itself of his wrinkled skin.
    Thanks!

That's interesting. I am gonna start building a new set up soon so I can get rid of those stupid screen tops. but until then I will keep an eye on my snakes so they don't hurt themselves. Thanks for sharing your experience
