kahl x sharp albino
just out of interest has anyone ever produced a double homozygous sharp and kahl albino boa?

Re: kahl x sharp albino
Don't know... if they have, they're keeping it under wraps.
That would definitely be interesting. The traits are mutually exclusive and can't be combined (meaning you can't breed a het kahl to a het sharp and get a kahl/sharp albino).
But it would be very interesting to see what a DH Sharp/Kahl bred to a DH Sharp/Kahl would produce...
Nice question!

Re: kahl x sharp albino
It was actually the very first thing done with either strain. That's why no boas were ever produced. It produces garbage, to be blunt. The genetics are 100% incompatible. I don't know the specifics but I've inquired about it before and was basically told it's a total loss. I'll email a few people and get the specifics.

Re: kahl x sharp albino
There are a few groups of double hets out there.
If memory serves me right. When bred together they through slugs and some really badly deformed babies.
I will put in a call to a person that I believe is one of the first to try it.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think the story was that Brian and Peter were in cohorts with the only two albinos in captivity and couldn't get them to successfully breed. They both took one and parted and then were able to successfully breed them through the offspring when bred to normals. Thus proving out a different strain. Not sure though. I should know by the end of the day!

I was wrong! lol. Here is what I found:
Pete's Story:
PeterKahl
This is what I found on Kingsnake:
This strain of albino boas are genetically incompatible with the Kahl strain. There is definitely something to be learned here- the amelanistic trait may not be controlled by a single mutant gene. As we have seen with the t-positive albino boas, a mere break down in the melanin-synthesis pathway can cause an irregular production of melanin. Breeding both strains of albino boas results in offspring heterozygous for both strains. Brian Sharp imported the animal pictured to the right and she (the snake) birthed the first babies heterozygous for the Sharp strain. These albino's are relatively rare and usually more desirable due to their tendency to retain color (i.e. the reminiscent saddles and the strongly contrasted tail markings).

As stated the genes aren't compatible. But one cool thing is with Sharp Strain there is something compatible in a sense. If you take a Carmel or Boawoman Hypo to a Sharp Strain you produce something call a Paradigm which is a wicked looking snake. You can then take that Paradigm to a normal boa. And get half 100% Het Sharp Strain Albinos and half 100% Het Carmels. Which since you won't be able to tell you have to sell as a possible ParaHet is what Basically boas calls it. Reason is the Carmel and Sharp Strain albino carry the same Allele I guess. I can't get really technical with the genetics as I am no expert on the subject. But figured would be nice to know they are compatible if you are just getting into Boas. I myself just switched from kahl strain to sharp strain. Weeded out all the Kahl stuff and buying up Sharp stuff. As imo Sharps are prettier. Plus not 10 billion people have them.

Yup...Paradigm's are nice looking snakes, but I wouldn't go to the point of saying Sharps are prettier albinos. That's a stretch. It would be safer to say that Sharps are a more "untouched" morph than Kahls are. Kahl's make a much more intensely patterned albino and you can actually afford them too! Don't get me wrong, Sharps are nice...but they seem to blur out when they mature. I think, since I'll never be able to pick one or the other, I'll just keep and breed both! lol
