    Re: Zoo Med

I use both a Zoo Med UTH and thermostat. I have had no problems with either of them, as long as your monitoring your temps they work just fine. But I think this summer Im going to invest in a Helix, once I have the cash...

    Re: Zoo Med

I have the Zoo Med t-stat r-500 or something like that and I did not trust it. I had it stuck to the wall and it would fall over on it's side and I would stand it back up. I had the probe on the hot side of the setup and the t-stat set to 94 and there were time's I would go in the room and it would be at 113 degree's. I would then freak out for a minute. I had it set to 94 at the tub temp would sometimes be 86 to 101. crazy.....Maybe I just had a bad one, but if I had to do it again I would spend the money and get something better.

    Re: Zoo Med

i was just asking because i figured that if zoo medknew their repitles like they say, then they wouldnt be selling products that would harm them. items like heat rocks, calci-sand, etc.or items that arent reliable like their thermostat,temp/humidity gauges and things like that.

Heat rocks....defintely should be discontinued. I'm still in the air about calci-sand. Personally, I've never had a problem with it with adult animals, but its still expensive to boot.

    Re: Zoo Med

I have to say that I was surprised when I saw their Lizard starter kit package and it includes a heat rock. I think it makes them look bad to be peddling something that most have realized are bad for their animals. I use their UTH and Thermostats with no problems. I think i'm going to upgrade to a herpstat pretty soon though.

    Re: Zoo Med

i had a reptitemp 500R and i wouldnt trust the thing as far as i could throw it..

it could have been me not understaing how to use it, but i now have a johnson and i like it MUCH better. no temp spikes or anything crazy. the reptitemp would be at what i thought was an "okay" temperature and it would drop to 72 (!!!) and spike to 114 (!!!) neither of which i want to ever subject my snake to.

my advice : if you're in the market for a new thermostat, invest a few more bucks and buy a johnson or a helix or something with a better set of customer reviews.

    Re: Zoo Med

I had purchased Wipe Out 1 and Mite Off from Zoo Med. When I called them with a few questions, I was instructed to treat the bp with wipe out. When I told her that the bottle specifically stated NOT to treat the snake with it, her reply was 'Oh, I didn't know that'. Personally, I think both products were a waste of money.

    Re: Zoo Med

Zoomed is in the business of selling husbandry equipment, we as animal owners need to be educated in buying the right product for our animals. Zoo med makes some good stuff and some cheap stuff, do your homework and make the best descision for you and your pet not Zoomed.
