Today was a sad ending and a new beginning... (DUW)

So, most everyone knows about my snake Harlett who I was "snakesitting" indefinitely for a friend. Today my friend called and asked if she could pick Harlett up, and I said yes.

After 1 year of learning from this snake and growing with her, she's finally gone back to her true owner. I wasn't too fond of snakes before I met Harlett. She inspired me to get a baby of my own and now that Harlett is gone, I just have the little one to raise up. It's a sad day for me, but my friend has been waiting until she could get her own house before she took Harlett back (her parents hated snakes) and I know she loves the snake as much as I did. I told my friend to make an account on here so I could see how Harlett was doing, but she doesn't use the computer very much. Harlett is in blue right now so I'm a little worried about moving her but she's staying in the same exact set-up so things should be ok. I explained to my friend all the little tricks I'd learned while having Harlett and I'm sure things will go well.

    I miss her already though...

Now it's just me and the little one... *sniffle* It's not at all the same.

On the bright side, I do have another snake coming. (whenever it stops snowing...) maybe that will cheer me up. Sorry about the picture dump...

Awww it is hard to let them go if you're fostering or snakesitting or passing a rehabilitated snake along to it's permanent home. Just think though of all the great you did for her this past year, what you learned, how you can share that with her owner so she can keep doing well and how this one snake opened you up to a new passion for ball pythons.

Sounds like a wonderful year all in all.

Awww, I'm so sorry! I'm sure that has got to be hard. But, think on the bright side, at least Harlett is still around, healthy and happy (or at least I assume he is and will be). We just had to put our dog of almost 12 years down last week. THAT was hard!

Keep your chin up and take care of your little one as well as you did Hartlett! I'm sure your friend appreciates you for all you did.

Thanks for the kind replies. I keep telling myself that she's only an hour and a half away and that if I really want to see her I just have to drive down there. But saying that hasn't been helping as much as I'd hoped. I keep walking into my room and seeing her tub gone and the little one sitting right next to that big empty space. It's like a hole in my heart. -lol- It sounds so ridiculous...

TanyaL - I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss. I am very thankful that my Harlett is safe and sound and happy as a clam, and your story made me even more grateful. I hope you and your family are doing ok.

Same thing is happening to me, except I didn't have the snake for nearly that long. In order to console myself, I'm getting one of my own.

You could always get a second snake

I am getting a second snake. But it's not a ball python. I just want my one little girl.

THANK YOU! And I hope that you are able to make the best out of your situation.

There is a bond that is formed between pet and owner that is so hard, nearly impossible to break. Those who don't have pets or never had pets will never understand!

I never thought we would be as close to a pet as we were to Rusty. We had him creamated and as of Monday, he is back home with us! We feel as whole as we possible can.

I'm sure that in time you will form another bond with your next bp! Time will heal!
