beardies and racks?
can beardies live in racks? do they need basking heat (mine are sharing a 55gal tank right now, split down the center, cant see each other) or can they live with belly heat much like a ball?
They would prefur living somewhere with more interaction though right?
*Can* they?

Re: beardies and racks?
I would think a rack system like RB plastics, or animal plastics... the large front sliding enclosures that are stackable. I would think that would be the closest to a 'rack' like system. Mainly because the footprint will be the same if they are stacked.
But if you meant the same rack style we use for snakes.... in short no. The adults alone need the big 55 gallon breeder size when full grown...

Re: beardies and racks?
Not only that, but they need 100+ degree basking spots, and special uvb.
As said above, the only "Rack" system you could use would be like this( theres more out there, but i think these look the best and work)
http://reptiledepot.com/showcase.html
But they are really just cages that can stack. But with these they have light fixtures which is helpful, and id suggest a mvb bulb so you would not have to mess with tubes in it.
and, they need four square feet of floor space, way bigger than a 55 gallon

This scares me a little(the red part mainly)!!! its good that you are asking questions, but any care sheet will tell you. Research, beardies are fun, but take ALOT of work! Right now you have them in what = to a 26 gallon, they already need alot bigger, but still not be housed together.

Re: beardies and racks?
They share the 55 gal because they are only 70g each. they are still only juviniles, their breeder is well aware of their housing conditions and said himself its more than adequite (sp) for them right now. i was asking to look into other ways of housing them. i didnt think you could have them in a rack system but also didnt think it would hurt to ask. the showcase cages are very nice, i might consider getting two of them for kodak and nikon
ive also read in numerous places a 55 gal is what is most commonly used, if not that a 40gal breeder because it is wider for them. ive never heard of using an enclosure bigger than that.

Yeah, i was thinking at work ," maybe she was just asking do they need it, but already has it? " sorry, i get a little over pretective when it comes to beardies, their houseing needs are just abused so much these days
55s are fine, but on just about any beardie forum they recommend it what i said before, they seem to thrive better with bigger cages
I love their racks, they are in three different colors instead of just black, and i think they are made better than some out there.

thanks! I figured it was just a defensive answer in effort to protect the little ones i get that way about my animals too... I have read on several different forums and the people out there have some AWESOME set ups for their beardeds! Im really just looking into alternative ways of housing our animals (The 55gal is tacky looking, especially with the divider in there.. its solid so you dont see the one on the left as much as the one on the right) Im looking forward to them having a nicer looking more fitting enclosure. That and front opening cages im sure are much easier to deal with!
