Hmmm... with the difficulty of acquiring firearms and ammo in the US, you'd think these horrific situations would be more infrequent.

I am not making light of the situation, but that thought goes through my head every time I read about these things and hear people ask, "How could this happen?"

In fairness it happens all over the world. In nations that have more restricted gun access, kids who are determined enough will use other means. In Japan one school kid brought a sword to class, cut off a classmates head, and stuck it on the gated fence outside. Also, America is a big place, so I guess statistically - in conjunction with the ease of access to firearms and other weapons - you are bound to see more then comparably smaller nations.

That's just my armchair conjecture.

In any regard, my sincerest thoughts and wishes go out to the kids, families and communities who've been affected by this tragedy. May there never be another.
