Flexwatt????

So is it OK to have different sizes of flexwatt on the same thermostat?

I have some 3" and 4" segments. All the 3" pieces are 26" long and the 4" pieces are 16" long. They are all wired in parallel with separate plugs for the 3" and the 4". basically they are wired separately but I want to know if I can plug them into the same thermostat?

Will they produce heat differently?

They will produce more or less heat depending on the length.

So, to keep everything the same temp with the thermostat, you would need even flexwatt throughout.

absolutely right. In order to have accurate control of your temps all flexwatt on a single thermostat needs to be same size/wattage.

If you're looking to have them heat hot side and cool side, then with some trial and error you can get this, but as everyone else has pointed out, each size puts out a different wattage.

However, I always thought wattage was more according to width, not length. If it takes into account length and width you might be able to get away with it since your 4" is shorter... Hook them up and keep track of the highs and lows with some temp guns and let us know!

Well it is for my rack. I have 3 shelves that have 31qt tubs on them and then 4 shelvs that have 16qt tubs on them.

the 31qt shelvs have the flexwatt rinning width wise (16") and the 16qt shelves have the flexwatt running length wise (23").

3" flexwatt actually gets hotter than 4". If you are doing multiple shelves it all has to be the same width tape.
