Re: Would you buy it or run away?
Honestly, when it's those types of purchases, I would forgo any "equipment" they want to sell and offer to buy just the snakes. I don't need any of the other stuff, and don't want the inflated price for a pair of BP's I can get for a fraction of the price.
If you like what he's selling, make an offer.

Re: Would you buy it or run away?
I wouldn't. Unless the "$500 worth of accesories" included some nice t-stats. They don't even say what sex the snakes are, so you could end up with two normal males and a crummy ol' tank with heat lamps that you could buy for a LOT less than $300 if you really wanted 'em.
Sorry...it just doesn't look like a bargain from where I'm sitting.

I would pass on it unless you are in real need for the tank and supplies.

Re: Would you buy it or run away?
This is what I wanted to hear... well not really but I'm happy I heard it before I did say yes to him.
I asked him a few questions via email about the snakes like, does he know the sex of them, when was there last feed, do they really both live in the same tank, how old are they, and have they ever had any illness like RI or scale rot. I just kinda wanted to know, and when the last sheds were....
I do kind of want the tank as well, and not for the snakes, but I do see what you guys are saying!! But around here a new tank would probably be almost $200 and if you got these snakes at the pet store they would be at least 150 dollars a piece... But I douth the tank is new, and I dont really know where he bought the snakes.
I think I'll have to think about it some more. Maybe I'll go home tonight and setup a new enclosure with the stuff I have and see if it works OK and if It does I should be OK to house two more. I just dont want to miss the opportunity right!
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

You can get normal males from breeders for a LOT less than $150 each...even with shipping included. There are a number of reputable Canadian breeders so you wouldn't even have to worry about shipping across the border.
And for the tank...if you want one like that to hold FISH...then you can spend that much for a new one. But if you just want it to hold a reptile of some sort, without filling it with water...you can get a "Kritter Keeper" or similar brand tank and those cost a fraction of what an actual fish tank cost. (Because they use thinner glass and a less expensive sealing process)
Also, you can almost always find really great deals on used tanks in the local papers or CraigsList.

Re: Would you buy it or run away?
Around here, I find larger tanks used at thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets for around $20. If it has a screen lid, it might go to $50. That's used, of course.
The snakes, I wouldn't think would cost $150 each, but that of course depends on whether YOU feel they are worth that to you. I paid about $90 for my first normal male from a reptile store, and I still consider him a bargain. The latest normal male I paid money for(in a group where I couldn't pick out the ones I wanted) was about $40.
Check out rescues, craigslist, and the like locally for you. But if you really like the snakes in the ad, it's your decision. Just be sure to quarentine them from any other snakes you already have.
Good luck

Re: Would you buy it or run away?
when i was using tanks ( long time ago it feels like...will never go back) i was able to go to the local petsmart or petco ( only for supplies) and get a tank for $10 ( 10 gallon) for the small ones and a 20long was only $25... supplies are the killer...i have a couple hundred dollars worth sitting around that i have been slowly giving away to friends that buy animals

if you cant afford to take care of it, dont get it

Re: Would you buy it or run away?
Negotiate the price. Sounds like you want this pair and maybe some of the equipment, so see if you can get a better deal. 2 balls in a 30 gal fish tank is too small, but you mentioned you wanted the tank for something else (hopefully not for keeping fish).
