Breeding Kay Caulkers ?
Ok Im a ball pyhton keeper and breeder but also have a few boas . I have been thinking about treating myself to a new boa trio. I really like the Kay Caulkers and would like to add a trio. My question is how difficult are they to breed? Can I keep them in a 80 cool and 90 warm gradient. At what age will they be successful breeders? What can I expect as a average litter? Thanks Bryan

Re: Breeding Kay Caulkers ?
I've seen them, and I like them!!!
But, as a notorious impulse buyer, I have to not know much or else...

Re: Breeding Kay Caulkers ?
Like most island boas, they are quite nippy and tend to not grow out of it. As always, there is exceptions, but most I've seen are like this. Also, like most island boas, they're not as easy to breed to as a common boa or ball python might be. Humidity and temp fluxes are a must to inspire breeding. Vin Russo's new book would be a great source of professional advice on the specifics of breeding and/or keeping any insular/island/or locale specific boa.

I think that the mean ones have been the exception... My Caulkers have never offered to bite even as babies. M y Crawls seem pretty mellow and the Sabogaes are super cool unless they smell rats... LOL!
I am not sure where the Insular Dwaves got the reputation for being nippy... It is just not the case, here anyway...

Re: Breeding Kay Caulkers ?
the Caulker Cays are great boas. as with most boas, they should be of three years of age or older before you attempt breeding.
I would also go with lower temperatures than the 80 cool 90 warm. I keep my girl at 85-88 hot end and 75-78 cool, but generally it stays in the 85 range.
This is my Female, Sha're, she has bitten me only once, during feeding time, and it was my own fault. She hasnt offered to bite me any other time since after the first week i got her, ( acclimation and such, all the stress can make them more nippy, as would young age)
But shes an absolute doll now.
