How do you desert people do it?

This is the first winter with my BP,CS,and others

In the summer the humdity was like 80-100%.

    Now that it's winter it's 15-20%

How do you manage to keep it up?

    Mist and keep fresh water.

    cypress bedding
second water dish on the warm side
regular misting of the enclosure walls
if you have a screen top cover 3/4 of it with something like tin foil or a damp towel.
provide a humid hide (damp sphagnum moss inside) during shedding

Living in the desert in SoCal where the ambient humidity is never really far above 20% anytime of the year...

The biggest help we've found in our display cage setups is to set up a UTH under the water bowl, which warms the water, causing it to continually evaporate in the cage. Yes, the water needs to be changed very frequently and the bowl scrubbed, but it's easier than constant misting. We only need to mist during shed cycles.

See the link in my sig for more info on how we set up our cages.

Cool, I got the screen covered with plastic partially.
    I spray it down methodically.

But I was told to put the water on the cool side, maybe that will help more.

Re: How do you desert people do it?

Here in Central Oregon (east of the Cascades) we run about 15% humidity year round. In the RBI cages I have containers of moss, wet paper towels on top of each hide and 2 water bowls. In the RBI racks I have a large surface area and shallow water bowl and a hide with moss in it. It is a little difficult, but far from impossible!

What I do is run a humidifier controled by a humidistat made by Ranco http://www.charleysgreenhouse.com/in...x=7&enter.y=12

Then you dial the humidity in your snake room to whatever you want. I have ran a humidifier w/o the humidistat and it gets too humid and mold becomes a problem. I keep my room about 45% and the enclosures with water bowls kick it up just a bit more.
