Humidity level about 36%.... is that dangerously low?

Yeah the temps are fine just my humidity seems to sit around 36%. I've been using foil to cover the top of the screen lid but I didn't want to restrict air flow so i left the middle and a few parts on the side open. Im using aspen for bedding.

Yea, Low humidity is as bad as low temps.. I have never kept a bp in a tank so I cant help on raising the humidity. Maybe spray the tank down more often.. Sorry!

i'm not sure how dangerous it is, but i know its best for the snakes health to keep humidity up to 50%.. try misting the cage, adding a humid hide, or covering more of the screen top..

my female BP is in a screen top that i had taped up, shes also on aspen and her humidity is always about 50%

i'm sure people will give you more ideas, good luck on getting the humidity up!

Re: Humidity level about 36%.... is that dangerously low?

I use cypress mulch in my tank, partially covered top and it works pretty good. Maybe once a week or so i will give it a lil mist and it stays 50-60 without much work.

Re: Humidity level about 36%.... is that dangerously low?

I switched to Cyprus mulch and had a good time with humidity with it. In a glass tank, with a room humidity of 30%ish, I was able to maintain 50-60% in the tank by misting twice daily. I've since switched to Exo Terra Jungle Carpet (as the store was out of mulch) and I personally like it even more.

I baked it at 350 for 1 hour prior to use (and letting it cool!) and it still retained moisture. When I misted it, it sucked up any moisture that was lost.

I cover about 25% of the screen top of the viv with aluminium foil (shiny side down, and leaves lots of room for air flow), and a small towel on top of that. It traps heat and humidity quite well. I also use a ceramic heat emitter in place of a light, as it does not affect humidity, and it maintains ambient air temps of 80F.

    Hope that helps!

Re: Humidity level about 36%.... is that dangerously low?

I was having a problem with my tank so I switched to two UTH's from one UTH and a bulb lamp, switched from aspen to paper towel and put a large water dish at the warm end of the tank. My humidy went from 35-40% (at the highest) to 55% immediately and has stayed there. I also cover the top with a towel. With daily misting I can easily get it to 65-70% and keep it there for shedding.

If its in a tank duct tape over at least half of teh screen, then mist every few hours, or try to keep and extra bowl of water over teh UTH or under the bulb. I still keep the very first BP i ever got in a 50 gal, and had humidity issues but this should help.

Re: Humidity level about 36%.... is that dangerously low?

I had humidity problems when I first switched her from tub to rack, our apartment is *very* dry (between 20 and 30%). I switched over to coconut fiber for both cost, and how great it is maintaining humidity. I can get a brick of it at the home and garden store for $1.99 which will last me a month once it's absorbed the water properly and enough left over for spot cleaning through the month. Plus, the extra has also worked great for the house plants as well! I find using the coconut I only need to mist once every day to 2 days, and getting humidity bumped up during shed is a breeze (I typically just do a full switch over with fairly damp fiber whenever she's going into shed - then perfect every time).

Instead of baking it before hand I "disinfect" by using boiling water on the brick - it serves to kill any bacteria and also convert it to dirt form quickly.

is putting the waterbowl over the UTH an option to raise humidity? I am having the same problem and have tried about everything....

Re: Humidity level about 36%.... is that dangerously low?

Add more substrate. I had a thin level of coconut husk and spraying didn't work at all, but ever since thickening the layer it retains moisture much better

Another thing you can do is add a second water bowl. Put one under the lamp (if you have one) and the other over the UTH.

Also this might be a bit messy but what I used to do is wad together several papertowels and spray that. I would put 2 wads on each side and that would keep and retain moisture and raise the humidity as well. For example when I had the thin layer of coco husk, if I misted the humidity would go from 35% to 50% then drop again within an hour. With the wads it lasted 3-5 hours.
