Where do they get it? Myths. Plain and simple. If they hear it, especially from lots of other people, then it must be true. And there are TONS of myths out there about rats and snakes...

And the truly ignorant will never listen to or believe those who try and correct them. This goes for both customers and employees...trust me. I heard some real doozies working at Petsmart. Especially since I made it my 'mission' of sorts to help others understand that rats were the best pet for young children(at least, out of what we carried), not hamsters. I had a fair number of successes, but some people... oh man.

I do admit, tho, that I had never heard someone claim that different breeds of rat would 'fight and kill each other' if kept together. That's one for the books.

Come to think of it, I have noticed a "nose in the air" attitude with some of the rexes.

I thought about that too! What about litters where you've got dumbos and rexes together? Or worse yet, a dumbo rex? Poor rat hates itself!
