I agree, flat bottom is preferable for cleaning - you would be amazed how a dried urate become concrete in the grooves.

Now as to your original question, you'd probably have to have the flexwatt set a few degrees higher to compensate for the space. Just play with it before you put your snake in, until you achieve the temps you want.
