got my python today
Thanks to everyone who has helped me! I went to a rep expo and got my first snake, a ball python named Lilly. when i brought him home we had temporary heating issues. for some reason the heat mat didn't want to work. eventually we got the temps back to normal (cool - 75-78 hot - 92-93). i know he has to get used to his tank but he has been in his hide all day and hasn't moved so far. is this normal? i'm a worry wart.

Lilly for a boy?
Actually, try to bump up the cool side a few degrees if you can to in the 80-84 degree range.
Perfectly fine for him to settle into his hide, it was a stressful day for him to be at the show, then to a new home, he's just de-stressing right now. He'll come out and explore later tonight, most likely, when the lights are out and everything's quiet.
Congrats on your new ball python!

haha i was typing so fast, i meant she. i've been trying everything and i can't seem to get the cool side up. its driving me nuts. i'm using a heat pad and an overhead heat bulb. i've also put a wet towel on the top.
thanks for comforting me! its my first snake and i don't want to screw this up.

Re: got my python today
Just keep asking questions, that's what we're here for. Just keep seeing what you can do to increase temps, but don't let your current cool side temps drop any cooler - you should be fine.
Now you get to wait for your first feed, your first poop, your first shed - all the firsts are fun and nerve wracking at the same time!
Once she's had a chance to settle in, we LOVE pictures!

haha thanks. i've learned so much from you guys and repticzone. you guys are amazing! i'm getting my camera ready now! lol.
i was wondering if anyone had any experience with humidifiers? not many people have had to use them.

Re: got my python today
I don't use a humidifier, but I also keep all of mine in tubs, it's so much easier to maintain heat and humidity (not to mention easier to clean).
What name do you go by on reptic?
Looking forward to the pictures!

Oh yes, I remember you. I'm glad you're asking questions, how else will you learn? And I was impressed with the homework you'd already done prior to choosing your first snake!
