    Argus Eggs!!!

We have eggs!!! When our female Argus suddenly "lost" half of her weight, we knew we had to go on an egg hunt We excavated the enclosure (8' x 4' footprint) and found 6 perfectly huge eggs... They are now incubating & we will have our fingers crossed for the next 7 months (give or take) Check out the photos...

Sure... if by 'calm' you mean that they don't attack when we change their water! Ours are used to human interaction. They don't mind us in their space, but put up a bit of a struggle when we first get a hold of them. They are one of my favorites, but we don't handle them unless we have to. They will take food from tongs and are interactive - just not cuddly!! There are only a few reasons anyone claims to have 'calm' Argus... 1) They are hatchlings 2) They are too cold 3) They are sick -- at least that is my experience. Too me, a 'calm' Argus doesn't spray you with poo if you have to handle them! For a "hands on" monitor, nothing beats Ackies!

Or waters if you like them big & have the resources to care for them correctly!

Congrats on your Argus eggs...that's fantastic! It's nice to see more folks working with them.

We haven't had the pleasure of working with waters... although we are considering them. Are they really a "hands on" monitor? My hubby is "threatening" to build a water monitor enclosure if he can find a Sulfer or Sulawesi! Lucky for him, it's not much of a threat to me. Guess I need to learn more about them.

    Re: Argus Eggs!!!

Yeah... I'm sure my hubby (DRZRider on most forums) posted them there. He's becoming quite the monitor breeder - having successfully hatched out a Dumeril Monitor & now having Argus eggs. He's trying to convince me to downsize the Ball Pythons so he can get a water!

    Re: Argus Eggs!!!

pshaw! for lack of a better descriptive character... I love monitors, but tell him to either build the space or downsize his own collection!

hahaha, anyway, I hope the eggs fare well over their long incubation, I've mos. def. seen the pics before and heard the story. I hope all goes well, monitors are more difficult than snakes, yet still bp's rock.
