Humidity problems.

Hi folks....

I'm having problems maintaining humidity in my tank.

The tank is 80cm long, 41 deep, and 49 high and I am using orchid bark as substrate.

I cant keep the humidity over 30%.

I'm using a ceramic at the hot end and a mat at the cool end, Both are run on Habistat thermostats and maintaining a temp of 81 and 91 degrees F...

I have sphagnum moss under a snake cave at the cool end which I am keeping moist, I am also spraying the tank every time I can.

And still the humidity is staying around 30%.

I have a bag of Trex Coconut Bark which I bought today to try as its supposed to hold moisture better.

So my questions are:

Has anyone tried Trex Coconut Bark and is it okay to use?

Has anyone used a Humidifier and are they the best method for keeping the humidity right?

If so can you recommend one that is available in the UK?

First off you need to switch your heat pad and ceramic. The heat pad should be set at 90-95 and the CHE should be set to turn off at 80 on the cool side. This alone may solve your problem... I bet your CHE is working overtime to get temps up to 90+ and thats killing your humidity. This simple switch should give you a bump to like 40-45%. I have used reptile humidifiers that are available at petco for like 20$ but I am guessing you dont have petcos in the UK... I would just search the net under "reptile humidifier" and should get something to pop up. Also see if you can get ahold of some plexi glass to cover the top. A humidifier will create humidity for you but if you dont have anything holding it in... its a waste. Id say start there n see if you get any improvements.

The tank does have a lid with a vent and vent at the front running the full length,

I'm going to switch the Mat for the Ceramic as suggested.. I'll keep you informed and thanks again..

I'm not sure what your tank looks like but I was having problems too and I used paper towels on the top and the misted them. I kept them pretty wet but not so wet the drip. That helped out a lot I even god a full body shed out of her doing this. Heres a pic...

Try putting a humidifier in the room. That can help, too.
