    bump under jaw

Wife got me a ball python for Christmas from local pet store. I have been reading alot in the forums here and got a lot of good info but one thing thats bothering me is this bump under the jaw. I don't see it in any of the pictures I've looked at and let me tell you its not easy to find pictures of under a snakes head. Nor is it easy to take some. i did my best to take some pics to post to show what I'm talking about but there not so good. It almost looks like something got stuck in the space under the head where the jaw expands. Anyone know what I'm talking about.

I'm afraid without better pictures, it's going to be really hard to see what you're talking about.

I'd suggest calling around and finding a local vet who is experienced with reptiles and scheduling him for a general physical exam and fecal check, which is always a good idea to do with any new snake.

    Re: bump under jaw

Well I took mittens to the vet yesterday and found out that it was an infection of some kind. The vet thinks it was caused by a sliver or a puncture wound of some kind. Now i have to give mittens antibiotics once a day plus keep the wound open and clean it a few times a day for a week. Well I almost got bit putting her down this morning after cleaning and giving her meds. Damn there quick.

Sorry to hear that Mittens has an infection in that fold but it's great you did see a vet and are getting it treated. She isn't going to much like the treatments but it's for her own good so just keep at it. I'd suggest you might want to have her on layers of plain white papertowel rather than loose bedding until that area is completely clean, healed and closed fully. I like the Viva brand myself. Plain white papertowels, not expensive and they are soft as cloth.

Removing the substrate and using papertowels was the first thing that i did when i got home from the vet. Im hoping that she starts eating soon.
